Baganuur coal mine has been under operation for 31 years. It mines three million tons of coal and supplies power stations. It sells 1 tons of coal for ₮16200 and receives loss of ₮3720 per ton. It has been making request to liberate coal price since 2000 and the Government hasn’t made any decisive step towards the problem.

Leighton Asia has secured a US$338 million contract to construct a new freight rail line in southern Mongolia. Energy Resources LLC has awarded Leighton Asia the design and build contract for the Ukhaa Khudag to Gashuun Sukhait freight railway in the South Gobi region of Mongolia. The main purpose of the rail project is to provide infrastructure to transport coal from the southern Mongolian coal fields to China.
